Woman Faces Life In Jail For Helping Ducks

**update from cbc: Czornobaj is only receiving 90 days in jail and 10 years ban on driving**

duckling jailed

It’s rather unfortunate that some developed countries like CANADA would still punish people for doing good. 25  year old Emma Czornobaj received life in prison for negligence for the death of a motorcyclist and his passenger who smashed into her car.

heart beat for lions

In 2010, Emma Czornobaj was driving down the highway when she spotted a group of ducklings without its mother on the median of the highway. Czornobaj stopped to help them find its mother and was prepared to take them home to raise when Andre Roy, 50, who was travelling with his 16 year old, Jessie crashed into Czornobaj’s car. Roy died on site and his daughter was found pinned under the Honda Civic and died later in a hospital. Roy was reported to have been travelling at 70-80mph in a 60mph zone. His wife was following behind him and avoided injury and doesn’t blame Czornobaj for the deaths. She did not blame Czornobaj for their deaths but the jury still sentenced Czornobaj to life in jail.

This is definitely a complicated case, should animal lovers be punished for being compassionate? While the victim’s wife chose to forgive her should Czornobaj still go to jail? Share your thoughts and comments below.

Canada. Forget about Canada. Don’t go to Canada – don’t move there, don’t vacation there. Canada BELIEVES in animal brutality, they assert their rights to BE barbaric – it is a way of life. Madness.

Really Christian, don’t go to the states, they are barbaric there too! Yes we have stupid people and stupid laws sometimes but Americans have no gun laws and can shoot whatever they want. People in all countries have barbaric behavior, you just have to fight against them but don’t put down a whole country…

LOL, no gun laws? We have some of the toughest gun laws on the planet, especially here in California, where we just had yet another terrorist attack that killed 14 people, and the perps used guns that have been illegal here for decades. Your comment is asinine.

Canada allows clubbing baby seals to death.. cant get more cold and nasty than that. Also I think the comment was referring to the govt.

We have such a beautiful planet. It is too bad that the good people on this planet have to be ruled by
ignorant unevolved so called “humans”. Most people in the world are troglodytes! Sorry folks if you can’t handle the truth!

She is a political prisoner and should be released immediately! No one obeys the speed limits in the US, because they know that the cops won’t do anything about it! Apparently Canada is out of control also! Laissez-faire capitalism is destroying the planet. Socialism and population control is the only solution! This jackass is responsible for his own death.

The woman is an idiot. She stopped her car in the FAST LANE of the highway. She didnt pull over, she just stopped in the .middle of the damn road! No hazard lights, just full stop.

Then a biker in the fast lane, slams into her because of HER negligence. And all you hippie morons want to whine about some stupid ducks? Two people are dead because Emma is stupid. She got far less than she deserved.

Seems like she did make a mistake by not using her hazard lights (if this is in fact true), however how can you not tell that the car is at a complete stop? The only explanation that I can think of is that the man on the motorcycle was going much faster than 80 mph. He was probably going 80 when he hit but was doing more like 110 mph before he saw the car. Its very common where I live to see motorcyclist gun their bikes up to maximum speed. As anyone who’s ever gone that fast knows often once you see something in front of you at that speed its too late to do much about it. He probably just slowed down and by the time he realized the car wasn’t moving at all it was much too late. This entire scenerio would have played out in less than 3 seconds in which case hazard lights would have done nothing to save the guy. It’s a sad story but I too feel that 80% of the blame can be ascribed to the deceased. Even the guys wife didn’t blame the girl which makes me think that my assumption that he was going over 100 mph before he saw the car is correct. Remember she was able to stop…

She is not at fault, animals need to be helped and you never know when these situations will pop-up, however you do have to watch for your safety & others and be sure to use your flashers, etc. It is very unfortunate for this guy but it appears he may have brought in on himself? He was speeding so had less time to react to the situation. Very sad situation but this woman is a hero and there is definitely no crime in animal activism.

Emma is innocent! It was a tragic mistake.Canadian law is very primitive and backward. Here in the US,
Emma would do some community service and take some driving instruction classes. What more can we ask of her?

In my opinion this jail time is not fair! When I learn to drive they kept say you should drive behind other car only that way whenever that car stop you should be able to stop too! I really sorry those people who died but it could be there fault too. And it doesn’t matter why the car stopped, she could have save other people life too, then she should have the same punishment? Not fair, not fair!
